Give a SHHH!! About Epilepsy

I am like many other people my age in Tallahassee, FL. I have been in college for nearly the last 7 years and I am getting ready to graduate from Florida State University. I know what it's like to be stressed and overworked from keeping up with school, work, and bills. One thing that sets me apart from many other students is that I have Epilepsy.

I have been having Complex Partial Seizures for about the last 10 years and they are highly stress induced. As many individuals with Epilepsy, or those who care for someone with Epilepsy, know...lack of sleep and sleep disturbances are a common trigger for seizures.

Again, I live in a college town so Tallahassee does not have a city wide noise policy. Individual housing authorities can hold their own noise policies but if a housing complex does not, there is pretty much little anyone will do to help if neighbors decided to party all night long.

Now I have spoken with my neighbors and informed them of my having Epilepsy and how noise can impact my health. Many however prefer to do as they please. I have spoken with my apartment management multiple times about this and today he told me "..I spoke with (the higher ups) and mentioned your health, but since we are a student living complex we aren't going to have a noise policy."

So pretty much, despite being a harm to my health they don't care about residents blasting music and throwing parties any day at any hour. Rather than go to my lawyer, I thought I would go to my advocacy roots and try to create some bad ratings for them instead. Maybe when they see multiple people connected to this cause they will think twice about how significant a little silence can be on someone's life!
