Today, We Stand Together…
To develop not just a soccer field, but an amazing place for all to play.
With nearly 1,000 4-18 year old youth in our community playing soccer one would think that there would already be a place to play. Over 70 teams play 2 times per week on 5 fields spread throughout Houghton, Hancock, and Calumet, from May until October. Having multiple field locations creates transportation challenges for families, coaches, referees, and players. Renting community fields has become cost prohibitive and because these are not owned by the organization, availability varies for every field, every year. The need for an owned field is critical to the organization’s survival.
The Copper Country Soccer Association is empowering its members and our community as owners of this amazing place by creating teams to quite literally hand build the fields. Hundreds of hours of volunteer labor with donated equipment created the first of 4 fields on a 10 acre parcel located at the Hurontown field in Portage Township. Kids, contractors, engineers, lawyers, parents, teens, and college students, are all coming together to make this dream a reality.
