I have always considered myself to be a strong Christian. However, early in 2010, I was reading in the book of Titus, when God showed me that I could be doing much more. The passage was written by Paul. He was telling the people that they should go about the business of appointing elders in every town. Paul said, an elder "must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it" (Titus 1:9) After reading that, I felt like I, and every other man, should be preparing ourselves for become an elder.
So, I began to study the Bible with greater fervor. I made it my personal goal to read the entire Bible in 2010. I have not completed every book. However, my study has dramatically improved my life. I have greater clarity of my life's purpose. I feel less stressed. My focus for getting things done is much better. And my relationships with family and friends are improving, most importantly, my three children. I'm motivated to encourage others to take the same pledge I did, because I believe others will benefit in the same ways that I have. Plus, God calls us to share his word.
Matthew 28:16-20 talks about The Great Commission. Let me give you the scripture.
The Great Commission
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
Like the verse 19 says, I am going out to make disciples of all nations. I ask you to help me in my mission to baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. I will be teaching them to obey everything that is commanded by leading a Bible Study, Cover to Cover. It begins in January 2011. For more information check out.
